Known as Stacia as a child and Anna to her husband, Anastacia's mother (Anastacia McCardell Minitor) died giving birth to her or soon afterwards. Unable to care for four young girls, her father (Thomas M Minitor) sent them to live with relatives. Anastacia and her sister Irene were raised by their aunt Lillie McCardell Smith and her husband Elmer Ellsworth Smith who lived in Baltimore, Maryland.
Anastacia attended school through the second grade, learning to read and write. At the age of 18 she worked as a bottler in a distillery, while living at home with her adoptive parents in Baltimore. In 1914 at the age of 22 she married Frederick Louis Roettger who worked most of his life as a foreman in a metal products factory in Baltimore.
Anastacia raised three children, the youngest of which died at the age of fifteen. Anastacia died at the age of 72 in Baltimore, followed ten years later by her husband.
